"Being recognised by the DEA as online Entrepreneurs is fantastic for our business"

Ben and Angus, AnyVan, Winner Green Entrepreneurs Awards

History of Awards

In November 2009, pioneers of the internet were brought together from all over the country to celebrate the UK's Digital Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Playing host to the event, UKFast held the ceremony in The Palace Hotel Manchester and presented awards to eight of the Nation's top digital businesses. In comparing the fierce competition online to professional sports, the winners were presented their awards by England international rugby stars including Matthew Tait, Charlie Hodgson, Richard Wigglesworth and young up-coming star James Gaskell.

The night attracted a selection of popular faces from online and off. Television presenters Nikki Dean and Byron Evans, were joined by Channel M's Ben Bland and Big Brother's Geoff Beattie. While from the world of sport, England, Oldham and Everton football star Earl Barrett and his wife Keeley were on hand to congratulate winners.

The background to today's DEAs however, takes us to the launch of the Internet Awards in 2006. This ceremony saw some of web's unsung heroes recognised for their contribution to the industry, with successful companies including, Printerland and Insight Studios.

The awards continued to thrive in 2007 and 2008, with the criteria for entry and the awards on offer evolving to recognise and reward best newcomer, best web design and best enterprise ecommerce site of the year. Our winners included big name brands such as Historic Futures, Square-enix and Envirofone.

In 2009 however the awards were scaled up dramatically and following the success of this ceremony, 2010 looks to set its sites even higher.

Our 2010 Digital Entrepreneur Awards are bigger and better than ever before and will honour digital entrepreneurs nationwide who have achieved entrepreneurial online success within the last twelve months.
